I wanted an appointment with my regular salon but couldnt get one so i went to tony and guy......Big mistake the salon wasn't welcoming, the hairdressers didnt smile or make me feel welcome. When they washed my hair the water was freezing, then hot. When my stylist blew-dried my hair she was really pulling it, there was lots of hair on the floor!!! Never again.!!!!!!

I wrote a lengthy response to this particular review, but as it exceeded the word limit for a response I've submitted it as a new review "Ex-Toni & Guy employee sets the record straight..." I hope EmmaJ and also anyone else who's had problems with highlights will read it, as it's more advice than review: It's some of the many things your colourist wishes you knew and I hope also serves as a balance to the reviews detailing bad experiences at Toni & Guy.

I've always enjoyed an excellent hair cut and service from Toni and Guy though I've never had my hair dyed with them

Ditto!.......You get shoved from person to person to be prodded and poked, the girl washing my hair managed to burn and then freeze me with the water and at the end the price was so much i thought i had been robbed. They can keep their image, i would rather go somewhere no ones hurd of and have a nice time. Lates face it we have outings to the hair dressers because we enjoy it...........

I haven't heard of them I'll have to trust you that they're good..LL

why is it, whenever I find a good hairdresser I promptly move out of the area. I haven't been to Toni and Guy for years although used to go to their training acadamy when I was a student to get a free (or cheap) haircut! I tried Supercuts for the first time about a fortnight ago... fab results! at least they don't pretend to be exclusive! Claire PS thanks for your trust!

I have never tried them, but I dont wanted to be treated like I am on a conveyor belt, and then pay £100 for the privilege good op. Helen

Yeh I have to agree, I haven't tried Tony and Guy but have tried similar. I have been told that the staff in some of their salons are a bit "snotty" too!! I wrote to their helpline e-mail address ages ago and to this day I haven't had the courtesy of a reply. Very poor. Angie

Good op, not my regular hairdresser so I guess I'm not missing out. Thanks for your feedback on my ops. Ian xxx.

My mate had a disaster at a Tony & Guy salon - that was enough to put me off, plus they are far too expensive for what they do. I mean, many of their staff are trained exactly the same place as my local hairdresser and she is half the price!!!

I stopped going to the hairdressers to have my roots done when I started to get 'stripy'. Their solution was to fob me off with a toner, which I could have done myself (I use purple 'colour enhancing' shampoo now if I need to). Now I just buy Boots own Simply Blonde for £3.69 & rope my partner in as hairdresser - cheaper, easier & better results!

I also lost faith in this 'chain'. A wonderful guy used to do my hair at the Sloane Square branch - then, when he left a girl made a right pigs ear of my crowning glory making me look like Suzie Quatro - needless to say, I haven't been back!

I have long curly hair too, and they mad a real hash of mine. I went in for a trim and she hacked layers into it, i looked like a bush for ages.

Gosh, I could have written this op - it was like you recorded what I was saying to my friends only the other day! I went back to T&G's 2 weeks ago to get my highlights done and I told the stylist I was annoyed that everytime I went back I seemed to be getting blonder and blonder and that I had never wanted that. To be fair, she did a really nice job....she put in the highlights and then over the rest of my hair a semi-permanent which was the colour my hair had been originally, and I'm very happy with it. It didn't cost any extra either. Maybe you could suggest that to them the next time? Bye, Susan.

Thanks for the warning! I'd hate to be treated like that at the hairdressers, and that price is rather high. Great op ~ Dru

paule23 08.10.2001 18:53

Gosh, for £100 a haircut I'd want the undivided attention of the entire salon, not just my own hairdresser! I'll definately give these guys a miss, it seems reputation isn't everything.

moonbailey 08.10.2001 18:50

I found the same thing! I am going back but only to the student hairdressers - at least they don't charge!

sienna501 08.10.2001 18:27

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate stripey experience! Thanx for the warning, luckily though i can never afford to go to a Toni & Guy salon which is probably a good thing after reading your op! Very helpful thanx - Sien ;)
